A day in the life of the cruise manager

Volume 2: Creating the perfect atmosphere onboard.

I previously wrote about my involvement in social media and as promised, I will now tell you a bit about my role in coordinating the entertainment and events on board.

dSign Vertti Kivi and I are currently planning the different youth and children’s areas by integrating the advice of seasoned youth entertainment hosts with helpful feedback from past and future cruise guests. This ensures that the layout of these areas is both comfortable and functional. The interior designers in turn plan the colors schemes, materials and furniture.

Fortunately I’ve received lots of great ideas from many different sources and the list of orders has grown quite long. The play rooms need to be equipped with toys, arts and crafts and equipment to cater for all sorts of games and competitions. Plastic balls for the ball pit need to be ordered. There is still much more to be done.

The entertainment’s content and scheduling have to be carefully planned. This entails coordinating different aspects of adult and youth entertainment including bingo, karaoke and quizzes just to name a few. The very best artists are being booked well in advance with the help of Viking Line’s entertainment manager Lotta Bergman. The AV technician and I are compiling different musical selections for all the public spaces; this music will evoke different moods depending on the time of day. The casino with its many gaming machines is being planned together with PAF.

Many different ceremonies are tied to the construction of a new ferry: the start of production, the keel laying, the launch, the christening and the maiden voyage. These are all planned in collaboration with a team of people. Before the maiden voyage we will of course need more staff. We’ve already started recruiting, and the entertainment section soon will be supplemented by entertainment hosts, croupiers and AV-technicians.

Do not hesitate to contact me if you would like to know more!

Wishing you a wonderful spring from the shipyard,

Johanna Molin
